Mums in Business: Rewriting the Rules and Making Our Own Success Stories
Introduction:
In a world where the typical rule dictates that mums go to work while kids go to a babysitter, I consider myself lucky to have rewritten the rules and embraced a different approach. As the owner of Tots Toun Soft Play, a thriving small business, I have had the privilege of spending quality time with my two girls, Gracie (6) and Eilidh (3), while successfully running my business. In this blog, I want to share with you a weekend packed full of birthday party set-ups, dance class drop-offs, and the delicate art of balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship.
Breaking the Mold:
The traditional notion of a working mum often involves a separation between work and family life. However, I believe that as mums in business, we have the power to rewrite the rules and create a new paradigm where we can have the best of both worlds. By involving our children in our business, we not only spend invaluable time with them but also teach them valuable life skills and instill in them a strong work ethic.
A Weekend of Celebrations:
This particular weekend was a whirlwind of activity as Gracie, Eilidh, and I embarked on a series of birthday party set-ups. From assembling colourful soft play to inflating bouncy castles, we worked as a team to create magical experiences for children. Seeing the joy on their faces and witnessing my girls taking the lead, being creative, having fun and learning filled my heart with pride and reinforced the belief that I am on the right path.
The Art of Balancing:
Maintaining a delicate balance between being a devoted mum and a driven business owner is undeniably challenging. It demands immense flexibility, the capacity to swiftly adapt to unexpected obstacles, and the ability to remain calm and composed in the face of stress. It also requires unwavering self-belief that you have the capability to handle it all - from ensuring Gracie makes it to dance class, to providing Eilidh with enough snacks, and ensuring that all the parties are set up flawlessly and on time.
The Rewards:
Despite the challenges, the rewards of being a mum in business are immeasurable. I am grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time with my girls while nurturing and growing my business. By rewriting the rules, I hope to inspire other mums to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and create their own success stories.
Conclusion:
As mums in business, we have the power to rewrite the rules and design a life that allows us to be fully present for our children while pursuing our business dreams. Through a weekend filled with birthday party set-ups, dance class drop-offs, and the everyday challenges of being a mum, we are rewriting the narrative and creating our own success stories. It is undeniably hard work, but the rewards are immeasurable. Together, let us continue to break barriers, inspire others, and redefine what it means to be a successful business owner and a loving, engaged mum.
